Roadtrip 2023 Spring: Seaside - Waldport - Bend - Rock Creek Schoolhouse - Richland

Day 22 - Poking the Sights down to Florence

The Team assesses the run-in to Neptune Beach. We were stopped by a washed-out stairway.

The fog rolls onto the beaches again today. Note the "not so secretly placed" listening pole. The hope is the alien threats will just think it's a flag pole.

The moss is crazy thick around here. How does a tree survive the weight of having so much of it's trunks and limbs covered?

Can a skunk cabbage still be beautiful?

The US Navy's new Directional Pulsed Particle Beam System is fully operational. Yes, it was designed to look like a skunk cabbage.

Years later we drop in on our friends the darlingtonias. They are just fine - thank you very much. They happily share their sanctuary with the skunk cabbages.

In a side patch, the US Navy is working on super-size Darlingtonias that can be used to eat oncoming soldiers.

Every trip the information overload seems to get more overwhelming.

Holman Vista provides an excellent view to the dunes and nrth towards Baker Beach. The wild broom is looking particularly festive.

Such a lonely bench. We stopped here to enjoy our coffees from River Roasters in Florence. We took the easy route and stayed in the comfort of the vehicle - just too wet and windy. We wouldn't want the wonderful coffees to get cold!
